A baseball cap is a soft cap with a rounded crown and a stiff bill in front.
The front of the cap displays a design or a symbol (usually a sports team, a baseball team, or names of relevant companies, when used as a commercial marketing technique).
They may make the cap “fit” to the wearer’s head or the back may have elastic, a plastic prong-in-a-hole (multiple holes with one prong that can be inserted), Velcro, a zipper, or a tri-glide slide so it can be fixed to fit different wearers’ heads.
Players baseball cap is a part of the traditional baseball uniform, with the brim pointing forward to protect the eyes from the sunlight. Varieties of the hat have become prevalent in the United States, both for utilitarian (protecting the eyes from the sun) and fashion accessory purposes since the 1980s.
Baseball cap history
The Brooklyn Excelsiors wore the origin of the modern rounded-top baseball cap in 1860, which featured a long peak and a button on top, and that “Brooklyn style” cap became popular by 1900. Latex rubber became the stiffening material inside the hat, and the modern baseball cap was born during the 1940s.
The peak, also known in certain areas as the “bill” or “brim”, protected a player’s eyes from the sun. In the earlier days, the peak of the baseball hat was much shorter. Also, versus the overall “floppy” cap of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the hat has become more structured.
An important means to identify a team was and still is the baseball cap. Often, on the cap places the logo, mascot, or team’s initial. They also make the cap in the official colors of a particular team.

Baseball cap design
They normally sew fitted baseball caps — those without an adjuster — in six parts and may be covered with a matching fabric-covered button (also known as squatchee) on the crown. Metal grommets or fabric eyelets are generally sewn or put near the top of each of the six areas of fabric to give ventilation. Sometimes, for extra ventilation, they make the backward parts of the crown of net-like mesh material. They normally make the peak stiff by a sewn-in piece of paperboard or stiff plastic.
They make baseball caps types by different materials and shaped in various styles for different purposes. Main and little league baseball players wear classic-style caps made of wool (or, more, polyester) with their team’s basic symbol and colors; they embroider the symbol into the fabric. Further, for snapback hats, there are brands that are using special materials for example wood brims.
Baseball caps came in standard hat sizes. Since the early 1970s, they have still been available in a one-size-fits-all form, with a change strap in the backward. The style, called snapback, has grown into popular as fashion accessories. Advances in textiles have led to the “stretch-fit” cap, which applies Lycra or rubber to support the cap to have a fitted style while still being “flexible” within sizes.
The front may be smooth or may be stiffened by buckram to present a logo more.
Plastic mesh cap with a foam front imprinted with a company symbol is another form of the baseball cap. They occasionally call this style a trucker cap or a “gimme cap” because they produce it for free as a promotional item.
Dad hats are unstructured caps with a low profile, curved brim, and stripe on the backward.
There are 4 main types of baseball caps:
Snapback hat – (hat with a snap closure in the rear) with flat brim, high profile, flexible.
Flexible hat – (hat with a velcro closure in the rear) unstructured, low profile, curved brim, flexible.
Fitted hat – curved or flat brim, structured cap, high profile, inflexible.
“Flexfit” hat – curved or flat brim, structured cap, high profile, flexible by the use of elastic materials.
