Notable World Football Events In 2020

In 2020, there will be many major sports events in the world, football current events as usually still accounts for the most attraction from global sports fans.

EURO 2020 (Taking place from June 12 to July 12, 2020 – in 12 cities in Europe)

2020 Summer Olympics (Tokyo, Japan is the host city, taking place from July 22 to August 8, 2020)

The world’s largest sports festival this year will return to Asia after 12 years. This year, 206 countries from around the world will compete in 339 competitions in 33 different sports, including 50 subjects.

In addition to the Olympic host city of Tokyo, matches will also take place in Ibaraki, Saitama, Sapporo, Sendai, and Yokohama.

FIFA member associations can send teams to the tournament. Men’s teams consist of U-23 players (born on or after January 1, 1997) plus up to three over-age players, while there is no age limit for women’s teams.

U-23 Brasil is the defending champion of men. Germany is the reigning champion of the women but does not qualify after losing to Sweden in the quarter-finals of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Copa America 2020 (taking place June 12 to July 12, 2020 – in Argentina and Colombia)

This is also the first time in the history of football current events list – the South American Football Cup co-hosted by two countries. Although not as attractive as the EURO, this is still an own attractive tournament. 

Starting this time, the tournament will be held every four years in even years, with the next taking place in 2024. Brazil is the defending champion, having won the 9th title in 2019.

World Cup 2022 Qualifiers (March-2020 until October – / 2021, worldwide)

The qualifiers for the planet’s biggest football tournament will take place in Europe, Africa, Asia, America, and Oceania. The teams will compete to choose the 31 best names to come to Qatar in 2022.
