Shin Tae-Yong led the Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma Club and worked as a temporary coach in the Korean team in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, he worked for U23 and U20 national teams. In June 2017, he was appointed to lead the Korean team, replacing German coach Uli Stielike.

Under Shin’s direction, South Korea caused a seismic defeat of Germany 2-0 in the final round of the 2018 World Cup group stage. But because they could not win tickets, the Korean Football Federation did not renew with Shin. when the contract expires in August 2018. Since then, he has not led any other team.

Before accepting the invitation to Indonesia, coach Shin rejected the clubs in Japan (J.League) and China (Super League) championships. The 49-year-old leader is a friend of Coach Park Hang-Seo. Many sources even claim that Shin received advice from Coach Park before going abroad, to Southeast Asia.

Shin Tae-Yong was a Korean player from 1992 to 1997. He also scored against Vietnam in the Asian Cup qualifier on 11/8/1996.

Does Indonesia appoint a Korean coach because of ‘jealous of Vietnam’?

Former Supriyono Prima reckons that the success of Coach Park Hang-Seo in Vietnam is the reason Indonesia Football Association hired Shin Tae-Yong.

Supriyono commented on the Indonesian version of CNN that the Football Federation of Indonesia is jealous of Vietnam’s achievements, so they appointed coach Shin Tae-Yong and it is a bad thing. Like many people had said, why to hire a coach from Korea when they had good coaches in the country. The federation needs to look at the benefits of the team rather than imitating what Vietnam is doing.

The poor form of the Indonesian team led the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) to sack Scottish coach Simon McMenemy in early November. After a period of negotiations with the candidates, vice president Cucu Sumantri confirmed to the press PSSI has signed a contract with coach Shin Tae Yong.

Clearly, Supriyono wants to improve the level of football, to achieve the results when appointing Shin Tae Yong. But it is not possible to connect him with what Park Hang-Seo does in Vietnam. Coach Shin Tae Yong is also not a special coach. Besides helping Korea defeat Germany in the World Cup, he proved to be a normal coach in other matches. Therefore, do not compare him with Coach Park Hang-Seo.

Supriyono calls for a change in the way players play and work with the players on the team. He worried that coach Shin Tae Yong would have difficulty communicating with the students.

Additionally, he thinks the players will not be influenced by the coach’s philosophy if they do not understand how the tactics work. The problem is how our players understand. Regardless of tactics, philosophy or play, if not consistent with the thinking and the quality of the players, they can not be effective no matter who the coach is.

“For example, Saddil Ramdani was disabled in the final of the SEA Games. Park knows where Indonesia‘s strengths are and his players are capable of fulfilling tactical requirements. traumatizing Evan Dimas also shows his mind, “Supriyono continued.
