Ferrari recruited Carlos Sainz, replacing Vettel

In the midst of trying to find a replacement for Sebastian Vettel, Spanish driver Carlos Sainz will play for Ferrari in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Notice of not renewing the contract

On 12/5, Ferrari announced not to renew its contract with German racing driver Vettel. The German driver ended 5 years with the Italian racing team. Vettel’s departure is thought to be due to Ferrari’s decision to choose Charles Leclerc as the main driver.

Leader Mattia Binotto said: “Ferrari and Vettel both feel that this decision is good for both of us. We are not easy to make this decision because Vettel is very talented and likable. There is no specific cause for this separation, just because we felt it was time for both sides to stop. Both wanted to find their own goals.”

The German racer asserts that it is not financially but because it takes time to do more meaningful things in life. Vettel has started playing for Ferrari since the 2015 season, after leaving Red Bull. The four-time world champion won 14 races with Ferrari, helping the team finish second in 2017 and 2018. In both seasons Vettel is behind Lewis Hamilton

Last season, Vettel was competed by teammate Charles Leclerc for the main driver position Vettel ranked fifth in the tournament, after Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Max Verstappen, and Leclerc. In December 2019, Ferrari extended the contract with Leclerc until the end of 2014.

Italian newspaper Gazetta detto Sport revealed that Ferrari also offered Vettel an additional year, but the 32-year-old rider had to reduce his salary.

According to the announcement of the F1 Italy team, the Spaniard will officially play for Ferrari in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Sainz will be Charles Leclerc’s teammate from next year. Their average age is 23.5, the youngest in 50 years. But team leader Mattia Binotto is still confident they will succeed. He said: “Sainz has gone through five F1 seasons and he has shown his talent and suitability with Ferrari. Sainz and Leclerc are young but they are best suited to Ferrari’s future goals.”

Sainz is only 25 years old but has joined the three F1 teams, Toro Rosso (2015 to 2017), Renault (2017-2018), and McLaren (2019). He is the son of Carlos Sainz Cenamor – a two-time Rally world champion.

Sainz landed in Ferrari after a successful 2019 season with McLaren, coming in sixth. This rank is highest among the riders who are not in the top 3 teams. He debuted F1 season 2015, with Toro Rosso, then moved to Renault. In 2019, he competes for McLaren, alongside 20-year-old racer Lando Norris. Sainz‘s route is similar to his compatriot Fernando Alonso, from Renault to McLaren and Ferrari.

Earlier, McLaren announced the recruitment of Daniel Ricciardo to replace Sainz. Ricciardo played for Red Bull from 2014-2018.
